Our Egg Baby!

March 23, 2008
Andy and MaKayla stopped to get face paints on their way home on Easter. After MaKayla went to bed for the night, Andy painted my belly in a giant egg. It took an hour for the master piece to be completed. When I stood up to take pictures my skin stretched and you could see little cracks in the paint.

The final master piece!

Andy did a fabulous job!

Daddy, Mommy & Baby Egg

I am monitoring our egg to make sure it doesn’t hatch too soon!

March 24, 2008
I wanted MaKayla to see my egg belly so I left in on for her to see the next morning. Some of the paint cracked and fell off but most of it was still there. As soon as I uncovered my belly, MaKayla ran over to investigate. She loved it! She instantly gave the egg a kiss, it was so cute!

Happy Easter!

March 23, 2008
I just love Easter!! I was unable to go to Easter service this year with being on bed rest but Andy and MaKayla were able to go. I reflected on Christ dying on the cross for our sins and his resurrection in my own way. I hope that all of you had a wonderful Easter!! Easter also means that warmer weather and new spring life is on the way, which I just love!!

As soon as MaKayla stepped in the hallway from the bedroom she spotted an Easter egg and was on her hunt to find more. She had no problems finding all her eggs! She didn’t want to put them in the basket, she wanted to hold onto all of them but soon there were too many to hand on to.

MaKayla with her Easter Basket. The first thing that she pulled out was her chocolate bunny. Hmm, she I wonder who she gets that from =). One taste of her bunny and she wouldn’t put it down. She would share with us but we couldn’t touch it! Hands off, Mommy & Daddy! We had to sneak it away from her so that she would eat breakfast.

MaKayla and Papa Masterson

MaKayla found all of her eggs at Papa & Nana Masterson’s. She really got the hang of find the eggs!

MaKayla received a new spring green jacket from Papa & Nana Masterson and a big yellow duck from Grandma & Grandpa Morris.

Andy and MaKayla came home around 5:45pm. She was fast asleep in her car seat.
She missed her nap today and was out of sorts with going to two Easter’s and all the excitement. We let her sleep for a little while and decided we better wake her up. She was very cranky and just wanted to sleep. Here she is snoozing on Daddy, how precious! After a bottle of milk in bed with Dad, she was ready to open her last Easter basket from Grandma & Grandpa Morris. MaKayla was spoiled with Easter gifts from both sets of Grandparents!

29 Weeks Pregnant!

March 8, 2008 27 Weeks Pregnant!

March 15, 2008 28 Weeks Pregnant!

March 22, 2008 29 Weeks Pregnant!
We are getting closer to the day that we will finally hold our baby! I thank God for each day that I am able to carry this baby! He has kept his hand on us and is keeping our baby safe, Praise God! I am doing as well as expected on bed rest and with all the monitoring and medications.

I had a busy weeks full of doctor appointments and tests. I have been keeping a diary of the pregnancy. Below are a few of the excerpts from it for you to read.
March 17, 2008 28 Weeks 2 Days Pregnant
I went to the doctor’s this morning for my first set of Betamethasone shots. I received 2cc of the steroid in each hip. The steroids are to help your little lungs mature faster in case you come too early. The shots hurt really bad going in and the day just got worse from there. By the afternoon my hips were hurting terribly bad. At night, I was in so much pain and having trouble breathing that I couldn’t sleep. The most I could sleep was 20 minutes then I would be up for an hour or two again.

March 18, 2008 28 Weeks 3 Days Pregnant
I went back to the doctor’s to get my second round of Betamethasone shots. I talked to doctor about the side effects that I was experiencing from the shots from yesterday. He gave me the option of postponing the second dosage for a week. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if you came early and I didn’t the second set of steroids so I went again. This time I asked the nurse to inject the medicine slowly and it didn’t hurt at all.
After I received my second dose of steroids I went to the hospital for my glucose tolerance test and other blood tests. I was given a 10oz. bottle of Dextrose 50 grams glucose orange drink. It tasted like a super sugary Orange Crush syrup. Then, I was sent out to the waiting room for an hour. While I was waiting the sugar must have kicked in for the baby because it really started moving and grooving. He or she was saying, “Good morning Momma”. After my hour was up, the lap tech drew my blood and I was on my way home.
Outings really wear me out from all the bed rest. I was so tired after the test that all I wanted to do was go home and lay down.
I was still a bit sore throughout the day but it was not as bad as yesterday. I still had trouble breathing laying down especially when I had contractions. I slept a little better at night.

March 20, 2008 28 Weeks 5 Days Pregnant
Back to the doctor’s for the third time this week. Dr. Manas did another Fetal fibronectin (fFN). I am praying that it comes back negative. I got to see you in 3D on ultrasound and you were as cute as can be. You had your little arm up by your face again. Your heart rate was 144bpm. You are still breech. Okay, little one you have to turn around soon before you start making Mommy nervous. I would really like to have you natural so that I can hold you right away. My cervical length has not really changed, which is a blessing. The doctor went over my blood test results. I am enemic and my hemoglobin is low. He put me on an iron supplement. He also informed me that my blood sugars were 174 which is high. Anything above 140 requires a three hour glucose tolerance test to see how your body reacts to sugar. So, I will go tomorrow for the additional test. Dr. Manas said that the Terbutaline could make my blood sugar levels high but it could also be my age. He measured my stomach and it measured 33cm. I should be around 28cm which means you are a little bigger for your gestational age. It could be from high sugars. We will have to wait and see what the tests say.
Dr. Manas has setup a Magnesium Sulfate wash for April 2-4. I will be admitted into the hospital to flush all the Terbutaline and ProCardia out of my system. Then I will be sent back home on the Terbutaline pump and ProCardia but on a lower dose. I am not looking forward to a hospital stay but I will do whatever I need to help you be healthy! It will all be worth it when you are safe and sound in my arms!

March 21, 2008 28 Weeks 6 Days Pregnant
I went for my 3 hour glucose tolerance test to see if I have gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is a special type of diabetes that 5% of pregnant women develop, somewhere between the 20th and 24th week of pregnancy. Although it is not the same disease as regular type 1 or type 2 diabetes, it involves much of the same symptoms - and puts post-pregnant women at a higher risk of developing type 2 later in life.
Because it is “gestational” only pregnant women develop this type of diabetes, and it usually disappears after the placenta is delivered during the last stage of labor. If uncontrolled, gestational diabetes can put the woman and unborn baby at severe risk - from unhealthy fetal weight gain (a “too large baby”) to preeclampsia (where the mother’s blood pressure shoots too high and early delivery is the only cure).
It is not uncommon for a woman to fail this first test, and for the 2nd test -the long 3 hour one- they do just fine. In fact, statistics show that only 1/3rd of those who take the 3 hour test fail it. The 3 hour test involves the same routine as the first one hour test - except it’s done in a more comprehensive manner (you’re give a higher sugar dose, and blood is checked multiple times over the 3 hour period).
I had to fast for the 3 hour glucose tolerance test. I arrived at the hospital at 9:30am and had to go through the registration process before I could have the test done. At 10:10am, the test started out with a urine sample to check for sugars in the urine and the tech drawing a fasting blood sugar. Next, I was given a 10oz. bottle of Dextrose 100 grams glucose orange drink. It was even sweeter than the one I drank for the 1-hour test. It was awful! For reference, I found a calculation of how many teaspoons of sugar that equals. In one teaspoon of Dixie Crystals sugar, you’ll find 4 grams. That means there were 25 teaspoons for sugar in that one 10 oz. bottle! Or, for more emphasis, that equals 4 oz of sugar (a half of cup).
After I drank the Dextrose, I was sent to the waiting room. I had to return to the lap every hour for three hours for blood draws. The baby was kicking up a storm during our time of waiting. I kept myself busy with reading a book and magazines. The worst part is that I was hungry and couldn’t eat anything or even chew gum. All I could do was sip on water. The glucose gave me an upset stomach but I kept my mind busy so I wouldn’t think about it.
The test was over at 1:10pm. As soon as I got out to the car, I ate a banana and granola bar. It tasted so good! The rest of the day I was exhausted and not feeling that well so I just took a nap and rested. Not that it is that much different than any other day =).

March 24, 2008 29 Weeks 2 Days Pregnant!
I called the doctor’s office to get the results of my Fetal Fibronectin (fFN) and 3-hour glucose tolerance test. The Fetal Fibronectin (fFN) came back negative, which means that within a 99% certainty that I will not go into labor within 2-weeks of the test. The 3-hour glucose tolerance test came back negative. Over the weekend I did a not of research and found out that Betamethasone shots raise your blood sugar levels for about 3 days. That explains why my first glucose test was high and the 3-hour test turned out normal. Praise God!!! I am so happy that everything turned out okay and that I don’t have to give up my ice cream and chocolate!!

St. Patrick's Day!

March 22, 2008
Daddy and MaKayla snuggling in bed watch a cartoon. We treasure the times we get to snuggle because they are becoming fewer now that she is on the go wanting to play.

I just love this picture of MaKayla propped up on her little hand in bed.

March 17, 2008
MaKayla surprised me with this little soap writing on the shower wall. Daddy must have given her a hand.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! MaKayla is all decked out in her green shamrocks sweater that Grandpa Morris gave her.

New Hardwood Floors

March 15-16, 2008
We decided to replace the carpet in the living room, hallway and stairs with solid oak hardwood floors. Dogs and children are not kind to carpet and we didn’t like all the dirt and grime that seems to stay in the carpet. Not to mention little ones playing on a dirty floor. As you know, we usually have one large house project a year around tax return time and this is our newest project. Since I am on bed rest and Andy can’t install the floor and watch MaKayla at the same time we decided it was best for her to stay with her Aunt Vickie and Uncle Nick for the weekend. This was her first night away from home. I think it was harder on us than it was for her. She had a good time being spoiled!

Here is the first of many boards going down.

Laying the flooring around the registers was very time consuming. Once Andy got past that part he made amazingly fast progress! Well, at least it seemed that way to me but I am sure he has a different take on it!

Andy worked hard all weekend. He stared at 8am on Saturday and went to bed at 1am on Sunday. Then he was back to work at 7am and completed the flooring, quarter round and cleanup at 7pm. He was taking the last load out to the garage when MaKayla arrived. Talk about perfect timing.

Here is our new beautiful floor! I just love it!! It is amazing to see how much hair really ends up on the floor from the dog. I purchased a new microfiber mop online and it takes less than 3 minutes to clean the whole floor and all the dust, hair and dirt stick to it. The best part is that the pads are washable and you only use water and vinegar when needed to damp mop so they are economical.

Our Independent Girl!

March 2, 2008
MaKayla once again took her boots, hat and mittens to Daddy this morning. He knew right away what she wanted so they went outside to play in the snow again today. She loves being outside! This time they built a big snowman. Well, I think MaKayla mostly supervised. The two of them came to the door and asked for something for the eyes and nose of their snowman. So, I gave them an Oreo and carrot. Somehow the Oreo came up missing and I had to give them another one. Hmm, I wonder what happened to the first one. Once again, she threw a fit when it was time to come in for lunch. She threw herself on the floor. We just had to let her throw her temper tantrum and ignore her. I have a feeling that she is going to be a high energy, outgoing, very independent outdoorsy girl!

MaKayla is putting her finishing touches on her snowman. Or, she could be trying to steal one of the Oreo eyes, I am not sure which.

March 1, 2008
MaKayla took her boots, hat and mittens to Daddy and in her own little way ask for him to put them on her. We soon figured out that she didn’t just want them on as usual she wanted to go outside and play. So, Daddy and MaKayla got all bundled up and went outside and played in the snow. It was a nice day for it. Andy pulled MaKayla around the back yard on her little red sled. Then they sat and played in the snow. Well, MaKayla ate all the snow she touched. Then the built an itsy bitsy snowman. I had to take a picture of her first snowman. Andy tried to bring MaKayla inside on two different attempts but she protested so much that he gave in and they played outside a while longer. Finally, he had to make her come in to warm up but she put up a fight kicking and screaming.

February 25, 2008
MaKayla loves watching her Little People video while I am monitoring contractions. I think that I have video almost memorized by now. I am going to have to look into purchasing some new videos for her.

February 25, 2008
It is never too early to start thinking about college. My friend Karen gave MaKayla this Duke University shirt. Hmmm, can you guess where she graduated from?

February 24, 2008
We thought since MaKayla enjoyed her soap crayons so much we would try a coloring book and crayons that I had also put up for a later time. She loves to color. Every night when she comes home from daycare she points to her coloring book and crayons. She has to be supervised while coloring because she has a tendency to color the floors as well.

February 23, 2008
MaKayla and Mommy snuggling in bed together. I really enjoy the bonding time that I get with MaKayla. I can’t do as much with her since I am on bed rest so I eat up every opportunity I get. Okay, videos seem to help her want to spend more time with me. Can you blame a Mom for bribing with videos for some extra bonding time?

February 23, 2008
Andy came in the bedroom and asked me if I knew where MaKayla was. She wasn’t in the bedroom with me so Andy when on a hunt to find her. She found a way to get the gate to the stair open and had gone downstairs. Andy found her lying in a chair watching a car show. She is such a little stinker! Of course, Andy ran to get the camera. When he told me where she was he was beaming from ear to ear that she was sitting and watching a car show.

February 18, 2008
After seeing my friend Shannon’s blog I was reminded that MaKayla had some soap crayons that I had put up until she was old enough to use them. Actually, I had forgotten all about them. I wasn’t sure if she would know what to do with them but she loves them. As soon as she gets in the bathtub she points to her crayons. She leaves her little Picasso drawings for me to see and enjoy. It is so much fun to watch her develop!
