Up North!

December 28, 2010 - We were headed to the Wolf Pack for breakfast when we spotted two bald eagles sitting in a tree together. One flew off before I was able to get a picture. We decided to come Up North right after putting Ike down yesterday. We thought it would be good for us to try and keep our minds busy.

Away they went into the night

December 29, 2010 - We went sledding at Lake Tomahawk. One of our yearly traditions. This was the first year that MaKayla was able to make it up the hill all by herself! Way to go MaKayla!

My handsome boy!

December 30, 2010 - We took the kids to see there first movie in a theater. We saw Tangled and the kids loved it! They didn't move a stitch except to reach for popcorn or a drink.

MaKayla is striking a pose before the movie started.

At the end of the movie, the kids wanted to see the screen from the front seat. They didn't want to leave. I'd say it was a highlight of our winter trip.

Papa made it up to the cabin in the evening. Unfortunately the rest of the families could not make it this year. Because we were unable to spend Christmas with Papa and Nana we got to open presents at the cabin. MaKayla loves her new sweater.

Noah had a blast with his new firetruck and fire fighter outfit.

I love this picture of Noah.

Snuggle time!

December 31, 2010 - Papa took us to the movies. The kids got to go to the movies two days in a row and were super excited. This time we saw Yogi Bear in 3D. Noah sat at the end of his seat and didn't take his eyes off the screen for the whole movie. It was so cute! He loved the movie!

In Memory of Ike!

In Our Heart
We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday, and days before that too.
We think of you in silence. We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories, and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

In Loving Memory of Ike

Forever Loved and Missed,
Dad & Mom
We made the hardest choice Andy and I have been faced with. We decided to end Ike's suffering. We had a wonderful vet come to the house. It was a very peaceful experience for Ike with Andy and I surrounding him in love as he passed and entered the kingdom of our Lord Jesus. It was the right thing to do but it doesn't make the decision any easier. He gave us great joy and we will miss him dearly!
Thank you for all the good times buddy! Have fun running around in heaven feeling good again. No more Old Man Moe! Dad and I are looking forward to seeing you someday in heaven! We love you!

Our poor baby!

We spent the day at home with Ike. While the kids played with their new toys and watched movies, Andy and I spent time pampering Ike. He is not feeling well again. His belly is starting to fill up again. It is so hard to watch our baby get old.

Merry Christmas!

December 25, 2010 - Happy Birthday Jesus! Merry Christmas!
MaKayla woke up and ran up the stairs to tell us that Santa had come. Before the morning activities began we took time to talk about Jesus and sing "Happy Birthday".
MaKayla's big present from Santa was a Fisher Price Loving Family Home. It was all set up and covered to be discovered and played with right away. She loves it!

Daddy and Ike

Santa gave Noah the Wrestling Mader and Lighting McQueen that he asked for.

MaKayla's Tangled doll is about at tall as she is.

MaKayla is wearing her owl hat that Aunt Roxy sent her.

This was the only picture that I managed to get of Noah in his Mohawk hat.

Surprisingly, MaKayla took this photo of us on the first try. Good job honey! I see a future family photographer!

MaKayla dressed up in her new dance outfit.

Ike gave Daddy a nice card and a paw impression. It was a very hard Christmas knowing this would be our last holiday with Ike. Even worse knowing it was his final days.

MaKayla had to try out her new skates in the house that Becky gave her.

Our Noodle Butt

We made a birthday cake for Jesus. The kids helped sing, "Happy Birthday" and blew out the candles.

Santa also gave Noah the Buzz Lightyear that he wished for.

Noah is trying on the snowmobile helmet. We had to make sure it still fit before we started packing to go Up North.

Christmas Eve!

December 24, 2010 - The kids woke up to find "Tiny the elf" hiding in his final place before Christmas! It was bittersweet for MaKayla. She has grown really fond of Tiny. When we explained that Tiny would not be coming back until next year she was really said. We told her that Santa would take Tiny back with him after he left present for her and Noah. That made it a little easier for her. She said good-bye to Tiny and wished him well.
Ike has not been feeling well for about a week now. Under the advisement of our vet we tried different things hoping it was just an upset tummy. Today ended up getting a lot worse. Our vet met Andy first thing in the morning. Ike's stomach was huge and pushed out on the sides. and he had no energy.
Let me back up a minute. In November, Ike had what we think was a stroke which left his left side of his face paralyzed. He could not even blink his eye on the left side. We have been putting drops in his eye every three hours to keep the eye from drying out and creating an ulcer. We knew that his health was deteriorating but he was not in any pain.
Back to the present. An x-ray showed that Ike was in congestive heart failure. The reason his stomach was so big is because of all the fluid. We were given a couple of different options. We chose to have the fluid drained to buy us some time. As soon as the fluid was drained he was back to his old self. We spoiled him with lots of treats and special meals of ground beef, rice and corn. He loved all the extra attention.
We were suppose to go back to Illinois for Christmas Eve with my Dad and Bonnie. Due to the circumstances we canceled and spent a quality time at home. Andy and I took turns going to the Christmas Eve service at church. We didn't want to leave Ike home alone. The diuretic he is on makes him have to go out about every 30 minutes. The picture above is from a couple of weeks ago.

Visit to see Santa

December 23, 2010 - Meghyn (the kids nanny) gave the kids an art station. MaKayla and Noah both love to color.

In the evening we went to visit Santa at the mall. They both did very well with sitting on Santa's lap. MaKayla even went back because she forgot to tell Santa what she wanted for Christmas.

Christmas with Grandpa Johnson & Grandma Elaine

December 18, 2010 - We celebrated Christmas with our families the weekend before Christmas again this year. It makes it a much more enjoyable time for everyone. We don't feel rushed and we can enjoy spending time with each family. The first visit was with my Grandpa Johnson and Grandma Elaine. Of course Grandpa always makes my favorites for dinner: chicken, homemade mac & cheese, apricot tapioca jello. Mmm, it was yummy! t Noah is giving Great Grandpa big hugs!

MaKayla is cuddling with Great Grandpa. This picture reminds me of when I was her age and cuddling with Grandpa. For anyone who knows me well, knows that I am a Grandpa's girl!
