MaKayla's 1st Dental Appointment

September 29, 2010 - We have found that there are differences of opinion as to when to start taking a child to the dentist. Some say 3 years of age and other say as soon as they get their first tooth. We opted for the later. There were two pediatric dentists that came highly recommended to us. We looked them both up on the computer and let MaKayla decided according to the pictures of the doctors and offices. This was her first choice. The pictures made it look a lot bigger than it actually is. The boat is cool but besides that and a couple of chairs that is it for waiting room. There really is not much for the kids to do while they are waiting. I asked to take a tour and was unhappy to see that all the dental chairs are in the same room facing each other. There is no privacy and I could see the possibility of a kid crying and scaring a kid sitting in another chair.
Daddy read MaKayla a book sitting in the boat while we waited. MaKayla was so excited about the seeing the dentist that we didn't want to ruin it for her but I was wishing that we would have checked out the other dentist first. She has been begging for weeks to go to dentist and we didn't want to disappoint her so we decided to keep the appointment.

The hygienist was super sweet which put me at ease. MaKayla did great with the x-rays!
She loved the chair that went up and down.
More x-rays! She did wonderful. Even with the little edges that were "pokey".
Daddy held MaKayla's hand while the dentist did an exam. She was so excited and told the dentist all about her dance, favorite colors, her nurses uniform, etc. After the exam they wanted to set a second appointment for a cleaning. I thought they would do that all in one appointment but I am glad they didn't. Now we can check out the other dentist and see which one we like better.
The best part was picking out her prize. She looked over her option closely.
In the end, the pink dinosaur was her top choice! She told everyone about her trip to the dentist! To bad we can't charge advertising fees!

MaKayla's 1st Haircut!

September 25th, 2010 - On the way home from the birthday party we stopped at our friend's Curt & Jody. Jody gave Noah his first haircut and we wanted her to do the same for MaKayla. I can't believe she is 4 and this is her first hair cut. MaKayla's hair is extremely fine and seemed to take forever to grow! She still has a ton of baby hairs around her face that I am still waiting to grow! I did the first snip and then Jody took over the scissors.
MaKayla sat perfectly still. I think she enjoyed the treatment! What lady doesn't?

Olivia was our flower girl in our wedding. She was diagnosed with Leukemia on May 14, 2008 two days after Noah was born. A lot of you have prayed for her over the course of her 2 years and 4 months of treatment. She is a brave young lady! Praise God! He has answered our prayers! She has been in remission for awhile now but they continued treatment to lower the risk of it coming back. Well, she finished with chemo and other treatments last week! Today was her birthday, I can't think of a better birthday present! Congratulations Olivia!!! She will continue to be monitored closely but we are so happy for her! She received a horse named Champ from Make-A-Wish and is enjoying spending time with him, her friends and playing soccer. Thank you for all your prayers! God really does listen!

Birthday Party with Family

September 25th, 2010 - MaKayla is watching Tinkerbell at Nana and Papa's the morning of her family birthday party in Illinois. We stayed the night so it wouldn't be such a long day.
A fairy patient pixie!
Another birthday fairybration!
Great Grandpa Johnson gave MaKayla a "good luck charm". They both have them. Grandpa said that whenever he looks at his it will remind him of her. He said that whenever she looks at hers it will remind her of him. We keep it in my treasure chest and whenever she is in my bedroom she gets it out and closes her eyes and says, "I am thinking of Great Grandpa, he is in my heart." It is priceless!
We decided on an ice cream cake for this party. I was not going to make the same cake twice in a week. Plus it is a long drive and MaKayla like ice cream more than cake.
Blow the candles out my dear and make your wish come true!
A beauty chair for her dolls.
A big hug for Grandpa Morris
MaKayla loves horses and decided to name this horse, "Bingo".
A fairy birthday is not complete without Tinkerbell.

4 Year Checkup!

September 24, 2010 - MaKayla had her 4 month checkup today and did great! She told the nurse and the doctor that she got a nurse's kit for her birthday. They taught her how to use her new instruments properly.
MaKayla studied intently on every detail!
Her height was 39 1/2 inches = 50th percentile
Her weight was 34 pounds = 45th percentile
Dr. Birn said she is growing beautiful and is right on track. MaKayla did get two shots (Pneumococcal & flu shot) today and did great! She even watched the needles go in and didn't cry! What a big girl! Noah also got a flu shot and he did cry!!! When ever he would see the band-aid he would put his hand over it and lift his leg up and cry. If he didn't see the band-aid he was fine. It was quite funny!

Not a Baby Anymore!

Grandma Sue gave this Winnie the Pooh bear to MaKayla at the hospital when she was first born. We used it to take pictures of MaKayla next to each month for the first year. It showed how much she was growing. Here is a picture of MaKayla when she was two months old in November 2006.
Andy thought it would be nice to take a picture of MaKayla with her Winnie the Pooh on her birthday this year and compare the pictures. I am glad he did! She sure is not a baby anymore. Well in size but she will always be our baby!!!! What a difference four years make!
How precious!!

Happy 4th Birthday MaKayla!

Happy 4th Birthday Sweetie Baby Girl!!!!!
September 21, 2010 - MaKayla woke up and ran out to see if the Birthday Fairy had stopped to pay her a visit. Sure enough she did!! She even left fairy dust on MaKayla's check and on the kitchen counter. She left a special birthday surprise on her breakfast stool.
The birthday fairy left her Thumbelina dolls and two fairy movies. She must have been extra fairy good this year!
After a fairy breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes, MaKayla wanted to go to Monkey Joe's. Daddy is having fun on the slide with the kids!
MaKayla had a bouncing good time!
Noah had a blast as well!
MaKayla is a pro at climbing up the giant slide.
The three of us sliding
Mommy and the Birthday Girl!
Noah was brave and went down the slide by himself! He loved the slide. The only bad thing was Andy or I had to carry him up the slide which was quite a task time-after-time!
This was as close as I could get to her standing still!
After Monkey Joe's we went to MaKayla's favorite place for lunch, McDonald's! They had a cute chair for the birthday girl to sit in.
MaKayla couldn't wait to open her presents!
MaKayla loves to do arts and crafts. One of her favorites is foam stickers. She now has her own art supplies so she can do crafts like Mommy.
Every fairy needs fairy dolls to play with!
MaKayla really wanted a nurses outfit that she saw at ToysRUs. She went right to work with fixing Daddy all up!
Now Nurse MaKayla is the patient and Daddy has to "fix" her.
Nurse MaKayla is ready to treat her next patient!
A cute brother and sister moment: Noah is telling his sister, "Happy Birthday Sister!"
